Allison’s job may not be considered odd for long, now that social media is taking the business world by storm. A self-described “social media addict,” the stay-at-home mother of four has turned it into a career, launching her company, Island Networking, to help businesses maintain a presence on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter (follow her: @islandnetworkin). “I’ve always wanted to find my niche,” she says. “I love it so much and I have so much passion for it. And I believe in it.

Bread and Butter Fills Bellies

Bread and Butter is an online shop that donates 50% of their profits to nonprofit organizations that help feed the hungry. Their slogan? Helping Fill Bellies.

This Massachusetts family is working together to develop a sustainable business model. The parents wanted their daughters to understand that there are benefits to working hard and helping others, and that personal and charitable goals don't have to be mutually exclusive. You can follow their progress online over the first 365 days.

Buy these adorable t-shirts or nightgowns to help support this worthy cause.

This computer guy is the best! Great prices, awesome service!

Hey everyone!

I just had to share my experiences with the Bluffton Computer Doctor. I used him last weekend to help me fix up my laptop (it was running super slow - turned out it had viruses, go figure). He was very nice, really patient with my computer illiteracy, and when he returned my computer to me - the next day! - the bill was way less than I expected. If any of you guys have any sort of computer problems, call him!

Nancy Jacobson is a political powerhouse

When Nancy was an undergrad, she attended a lecture by Colorado Senator Gary Hart. As fate would have it, she wrote her name down on the sign in sheet and was called by his campaign to help fundraise for the presidential hopeful. "I hosted a fundraiser for him at Syracuse for $5 a head," she says. "When he surprised everyone in the New Hampshire primary, they called me to help coordinate my entire district for his campaign."

And that's when Nancy, already a political science major, found that fundraising was her calling at a young age.

She has been involved in every major election since that 1984 campaign. After joining Bill Clinton's campaign in 1991 and helping him get to victory,  she served as the Finance Chair of the Democratic National Committee and Democratic Leadership Council under his administration.

"The 1991 Bill Clinton campaign was probably the most exciting one I've worked on," says the Georgetown resident. "Of all the things I've done, building and creating something from scratch is the most fun."

With a history of supporting moderates on the democratic side, Nancy has helped countless big name Dems get into office. That's probably why she was named one of the "50 Most Powerful People in D.C." by GQ Magazine.
